Massage Therapy FAQ

What is massage therapy?

Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of muscles and soft tissue to relieve pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.

What types of massage do you offer?

At Somavive Mile End Studio, we offer holistic and therapeutic massage incorporating Ayurvedic oils, aromatherapy, and relaxation techniques, as well as offering a unique Hot Stone treatment.

What can massage help with?

Massage therapy can ease muscle tension, headaches, stress, and postural strain, while improving circulation, flexibility, and mental/emotional well-being.

What should I expect at my first massage?

Your therapist will have first created your custom oil blend based on your unique constitution, and will discuss your needs, customize your session for relaxation, pain relief, or specific areas of focus.

Does massage hurt?

Massage should be relaxing and restorative, which is why we don't "Deep Tissue" at Somavive which creates extra tension in the body and can damage the tissue. Sometimes though the sensation of "it hurts so good" is very relieving, which is why the experience of pain is nuanced. We adjust pressure to your comfort, ensuring a safe, relaxing experience.

What should I wear?

You’ll be properly draped at all times for comfort and privacy. Undress to your comfort level.

How often should I come for massage?

Many clients benefit from regular sessions every 4-6 weeks to maintain mobility and reduce stress.

Should I shower before a massage?

Yes if possible, it is customary to clean your body before a massage for both you and your practitioner.

Is a SOMAVIVE massage covered by insurance?

Yes, SOMAVIVE massage receipts include all professional registration details.

Can I combine massage with osteopathy or acupuncture?

It depends. Massage changes the distribution of tension in your body in a generalized way, while osteopathy treatments have a very specific intention behind them. It's best not to combine osteopathy and massage treatments within the same week. Massage and acupuncture however are a great fit!
